So the picture quality in high definition (HD) is much better than that of the old standard definition and so if you are buying a DVD recorder it makes sense to make sure that it can display HD content. The best way to tell if it can is to look for a HDMI socket on the DVD recorder as this carries high definition content and so tells you that the DVD recorder can display the HD picture. There are also DVD recorders that can record in high definition but some do not and so be sure to check before you buy.
The other consideration with an HD DVD recorder is that you need an HD television to view the high definition picture quality as old televisions do not have a high enough resolution to be able to show HD content. Some of the HD DVD recorders can upscale the quality od standard DVD's so that they look as good as HD DVD's but with other HD DVD recorders you have to buy high definition DVD's.
